GP Clinical Experience

  • I qualified as a GP in August 2014 and I have been working as a full time GP since August 2014. My GP carer started initially as a Salaried GP in Barnsley and now a GP Partner in Sheffield. Both practices are large teaching practices with a diverse patient population. Within my role as a GP, I am involved within the acute and chronic care of patients of all ages and have a wealth of clinical experience in managing these patients.

  • I have also been working for the past 6 years as a GP for the Out of hours GP service in Sheffield. This is on a sessional basis, on average around 10-15hours a week. The clinical exposure related to this role is very different from that of my fulltime partner role. Patients presenting to the out of hours emergency service are in general more acute in nature with a risk profile greater than that of a regular GP role due to the reduced access to the clinical notes.

  • Within all of the roles as a GP I am involved in training, - see below – This teaching experience acts to not only embed my clinical understanding but has enabled me a level of understanding of these roles within primary care and their remit within practice.

Teaching Experience

  • Physician Associate and Advance Care Practitioner Clinical Supervisor

I am the lead GP for clinical placements at Woodseats medical centre. This involves delivering direct clinical

teaching on the primary care management of patients to trainee allied health professionals.

  • Training Program Director

I am a training program Director for the Sheffield and Barnsley GP training scheme. This involves the education, support and annual assessment of GPs in training.

  • Sheffield Out of Hours GP Trainee Supervisor

As part of my work at the Sheffield OOH I supervise GP trainees educating and supporting them to develop

the skills required to manage patients in an out of hours setting.

  • Senior Lecturer Sheffield Hallam University

I am involved in the education and assessment of both Physician Associate trainees and Advance Care

Practitioner trainees on both a local and national level. My educational role is based around educating

allied health professionals in the management of primary care patients.
